2026 - Andreas Brügger and Regular Herter Swiss Immigrants

Andreas Brüngger and Regular Herter- Swiss Immigrants

Andreas Brüngger was born in July 1699, the third son of Hans Konrad Brüngger and Maria Weidmann.  On 26 April in 1720 he married Regula Herter in Elsau, Zürich, Switzerland.

Their first two children did not live beyond a year (one born in 1721, and Hans Konrad born in 1722).  In 1724, Ulrich was born; followed by Jacob Brinker (Sr) in 1726 (d 1785); Maria Elisabeth (1727-1798); Abraham Brinker (1734–1764).

It’s difficult to determine if the entire family immigrated together but Andreas arrived in Philadelphia arrived with other Swiss and Germans in 1735 on the ship Brigantine Mary.

Andrea's name was "anglicized" to "Brinker" in the colonies.

Andreas' wife, Regula Herter (Hester) was born in Hettlingen, Zurich Canton, Switzerland on September 8, 1695 to Junghans Hester (Herter) and Barbara Gutherz. I would guess she may have immigrated with the children when the youngest (born in 1734) was older.

Andreas and Regular and their family settled in the Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County, Pennsylvania. Bethelehem and Nazareth were settled early by Moravians. On the map, Bethlehem PA is west of the Brinker property (which was passed on to his son, this map from 1870s).

Regula died on December 7, 1757 in Lower Saucon Township,  and was buried at the Tohickon Reformed Church Cemetery in Bedminster Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

Document for 50 aces of land in Bucks County PA - presumably the same land he occupied as it was bought in 1739, 4 years after immigrating.

On February 28, 1758, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania he married Sara (Maria Sara) wed at the Tohickon Reformed Church. It looks like she may have been a widow.

The descendants of Andreas and Regula to my mother are Brinkers, who eventually migrate to western PA and marry into the Bancroft line.

The Brinkers --> Bancroft--> Tilton to my mother's paternal side shown below (in part)
